Clone Wars: Season 7 Trailer Reaction

Witnessing the final end to this awesome show

I finished up my podcast last Wednesday and wrote a final review of the Skywalker saga the next day. Leaning back into my chair, I assumed I would get a breather from this franchise. Focus my writing on another show, or do a sports article, maybe something even more serious.

Then Star Wars reminded me that it NEVER ends, and dropped a trailer for a show that hit me with nostalgia like a truck.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars dates back all the way to 2008, with six total seasons. It follows the storyline of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and other movie regulars like Yoda and the Emperor, and combines them with the introductions of new ones like Ahsoka Tano, the padawan of Anakin, or fearless Clone leader Captain Rex. The show dives into the actual war between the Galactic Republic and the Seperatists.

Before I break the trailer down, I gotta say I’m so stoked to see this show finish its story. Nothing was better than waking up early on Saturdays as a kid to watch each new episode- before the era of streaming services. Also, this is going to be a major spoiler post. You had 12 years to watch it, so…

Let’s see what this final season is going to bring us.

A HEAVY EMPHASIS ON AHSOKA

Ahsoka’s destiny seemed unclear when this show originally ended, as she leaves the Jedi Order after she’s falsely accused of a crime she didn’t commit. We don’t see her again until Star Wars: Rebels, and she’s much older. So, what exactly happened to her?

This final season will hopefully wrap up Ahsoka’s time during the Clone Wars, and show us how she managed to escape the great Jedi Purge of Order 66 (More on that later).

MAUL’S ROLE AT THE END OF THE WAR

So, yeah, Darth Maul just can’t die.

Another character who appears in Star Wars: Rebels, Maul’s story ended in Clone Wars by being defeated by his former master. The show clearly isn’t done with him, however, as a Maul vs Ahsoka duel is most likely going to happen.

Maul may serve another purpose, however. Let’s think back to Phantom Menace, back when Maul served Palpatine. Maul most likely knew of the final plan of Order 66 (again, stick with me). In fact, he was probably supposed to be a part of the plan, until he is defeated by Obi-Wan on Naboo and replaced eventually by Anakin.

I’m incredibly fascinated by Maul’s character and lore. If Disney wanted to do another spin-off movie, I would want it to be about his origin story.

LOTS OF MANDALORIANS!

If you know me, you know I love Mandalorians. If you didn’t know that, go read my Mandalorian reviews (they’re really good!)

The Mandalorians were featured quite a bit in Clone Wars, and their story apparently isn’t ending yet. It’s been confirmed that the planet will be sieged by the Republic, as it was currently ruled by Maul. Crazy, right?

I’d venture to guess that Ahsoka will go to the Mandalorians not following Maul to aid them. Or maybe she gets saved? I’m not totally sure, but like I said, Mandalorians are awesome.

ORDER 66 AND THE FALL OF ANAKIN:

I kept hinting at this, but the latter half of this show will most likely introduce Order 66, aka the events of Revenge of the Sith.

Here’s a hint to it from an Instagram post I found. Two lines exactly from the film- IDENTICAL.

We also get a lot of shots of an angry Anakin, as well as a pregnant Padmé, his secret wife. Order 66 is definitely how this show is going to end, but hopefully it’s from the perspectives of other characters too. It’d be disappointing to get an exact copy of Revenge of the Sith.

The final season of Clone Wars airs on February 21st onto Disney+, and similar to The Mandalorian, it will be weekly releases. The shows of Star Wars always explore the unknown and take risks a movie wouldn’t take, and I anticipate the arrival of my old childhood show.
